DESCRIPTION Independent schools depend on their boards to keep them fiscally strong and viable. To assess how well they do this, NAIS conducted a research study in spring 2006, generously financed by the Klingenstein Foundation. This study investigated board composition, practices, attitudes, and effectiveness. The State of Independent School Governance reveals the results of this study, and puts them in the context of best practice in various aspects of governance. Use this report in evaluating your own board and in identifying areas for discussion and action.
